An ex-con forms an unconventional relationship with a neighbour in Skolimowski’s psychological suspense thriller
Skolimowski returned to directing after a nearly two-decade hiatus with this quietly unsettling study of a lonely ex-convict who expresses his infatuation with his neighbour not by the more conventionally cinematic method of romancing or kidnapping her but by repeatedly drugging her so that he can clean her house while she sleeps, for deep-seated reasons that only gradually emerge.
