When Mary Lennox is sent from India to live in England with relatives, she discovers an overgrown mysterious garden and a lonely boy – her cousin, Colin – hidden away in a remote country house. Gradually the two children, with their friend Dickon, begin to uncover the secrets of nature concealed behind garden walls and the family stories entwined within.
Agnieszka Holland’s sumptuous re-telling is often cited as one of the best adaptations of the classic children’s book by Frances Hodgson Burnett and boasts music by composer Zbigniew Preisner and beautiful performances from the three young leads, ably supported by a frowning Maggie Smith as their severe housekeeper, Mrs Medlock.
