Robert Duvall holds lightship captain Klaus Maria Brandauer hostage, challenging the latter’s pacifism.

Brandauer plays the captain of a stationary lightship whose fervently pacifist views are challenged when he and his crew are taken hostage by a trio of criminals led by the disconcertingly dapper Duvall. Skolimowski’s only wholly American film is the closest that he came to a full-blown genre piece, but it’s just as slyly subversive as the rest of his canon.
